Gelato brand secures Waitrose listing

Remeo Gelato, the UK’s first Italian gelato sold in a jar, has secured a listing with national retailer Waitrose.

The gluten-free brand will launch nationwide into selected stores, retailing three products in its gelato and sorbetto range: Dark Chocolate, Pistacchio Siciliano, and Stracciatella.

Mintel research reveals that “the popularity Gelato enjoys in the US is now making its way across Europe” and that “there is strong demand in European markets for Gelato to be made more widely available at retail.”

This new retail partnership will allow Remeo Gelato to meet growing demand for authentic gelato and lead the growth of this new sub-category.

A Remeo Gelato spokesperson comments, “We are thrilled to have secured this retail partnership with Waitrose, allowing us to reach more consumers and further our mission to establish a new exciting sub-category within UK’s frozen dessert market. We plan to further double our distribution footprint in 2018.

“Our trademark transparent twist-off jars, made by our Italian designers, allow to show the texture of our gelato and provide a unique standout on shelf and a luxury appeal to the consumer.”

Already available on Ocado, Whole Foods, As Nature Intended, and Harvey Nichols, Remeo Gelato is produced using the brand’s unique slow-churn mantecazione process, which reduces the amount of air in the product, resulting in a denser and smoother texture and more flavour per spoonful.
